WE

The client decided to move to Yangpyeong in search of a different way of life, hoping to step away from the standardized education system and dense urban environment so that their child could grow freely in nature. The site sits at the highest point of a village where houses gradually climb along a mountain road, facing a landscape where mountains, mist, and clouds overlap.

The plot is narrow in the north–south direction and elongated east to west, with different landscapes unfolding along its edges. A nearby forest lies to the north, while another forest to the west catches the evening sunset. Standing on the cleared site after the previous building had been demolished, the design began with the intention of drawing these landscapes of different distances and directions into the house.

The house was planned both as a family residence and as a place where other families can visit and stay. Shared and private spaces are carefully balanced so the family can spend time together while maintaining their own rhythms. As the client documents scenes of everyday life through video, the spaces were designed not to be strongly defined by specific functions but to act as a backdrop for daily life. The interior was organized as a calm white space, leaving room for everyday life to unfold naturally.

A large opening and a terrace on the second floor face south, bringing in light and the surrounding landscape, while another terrace to the west frames the forest at sunset. The yard on the first floor and the terrace above allow the child to move easily outdoors, creating spaces for play. A small pool in the yard extends everyday activities into the landscape.

While the large openings draw the landscape into the house, the building was constructed with sufficient airtightness and insulation to maintain comfort throughout the year. Solar panels were installed and concealed by adjusting the roof angle so they remain out of direct view. Only a limited number of windows were placed on the north side, bringing in the nearby forest and softer light.

Rather than creating dramatic scenes, the house allows everyday moments to meet the surrounding landscape naturally. Moving between the interior, terraces, and yard, small memories gradually accumulate and shape the character of the home.

    건축주는 정형화된 교육 시스템과 밀집된 도시 환경을 벗어나 자녀가 자연 속에서 자유롭게 성장할 수 있는 삶을 고민하며 양평으로의 이주를 결정했다. 대지는 산길을 따라 집들이 이어지는 마을의 가장 위쪽에 위치해 산과 안개, 구름이 겹쳐지는 풍경을 정면으로 바라본다.

    남북으로 좁고 동서로 길게 뻗은 대지의 경계에는 서로 다른 풍경이 놓여 있다. 북쪽에는 가까운 숲이 있고, 서쪽에는 노을이 걸리는 또 다른 숲이 이어진다. 기존 건물이 철거된 뒤 빈 대지 위에 서서 주변을 바라보았을 때, 서로 다른 거리와 방향의 풍경을 집 안으로 끌어들이는 것이 공간 계획의 출발점이 되었다.

    이 집은 가족이 거주하는 공간이면서 동시에 다른 가족들이 머무를 수 있는 장소로 계획되었다. 공유 공간과 개인 공간의 균형을 조정해 함께 지내면서도 각자의 시간을 유지할 수 있도록 했다. 건축주는 일상의 장면을 영상으로 기록하는 일을 하고 있어 공간은 특정 기능에 규정되기보다 다양한 삶의 장면을 담는 배경이 되도록 구성했다. 내부는 간결한 흰색 공간으로 정리해 일상의 모습이 자연스럽게 드러날 수 있는 여백을 남겼다.

    남쪽에는 큰 창과 2층 테라스를 두어 풍경과 빛을 적극적으로 받아들이고, 서쪽에는 노을을 바라볼 수 있는 또 하나의 테라스를 계획했다. 1층 마당과 2층 테라스는 아이가 자연스럽게 밖으로 나가 뛰놀 수 있는 공간이 되며, 마당 한쪽에는 작은 수영장을 두어 일상의 놀이가 이어지도록 했다.

    큰 창을 통해 풍경을 끌어들이면서도 집은 충분한 기밀성과 단열을 확보해 사계절 쾌적한 환경을 유지하도록 했다. 태양열 설비는 지붕 각도를 조정해 외부에서 직접 보이지 않도록 했으며, 북쪽 입면에는 필요한 만큼의 창만 두어 가까운 숲과 부드러운 빛을 조용히 들인다.

    이 집은 특별한 장면을 만들어내기보다 일상의 순간들이 자연스럽게 풍경과 만나는 공간이 되기를 바란다. 집 안과 테라스, 마당을 오가며 쌓이는 작은 기억들이 시간이 지나며 이 집의 풍경을 만들어 간다.
