    The site lies within a residential district where houses of different forms and materials have been built over time. Timber frames, steel structures, brick, and stone all coexist, creating a streetscape that feels like a collage of today’s common housing types. Within this varied environment, the project set out to create a house of fundamental form, simple yet quietly strong in its presence.

    The design began with a commitment to functionality and performance. Instead of complex shapes or excessive ornament, the house takes on the archetypal pitched roof, deep eaves, and natural stone as its defining exterior elements. Behind its restrained appearance, high-performance standards close to those of a passive house were applied. Thermal performance and thermal bridges were carefully considered, insulation was reinforced, and airtight windows and finishes were selected to achieve both energy efficiency and a comfortable interior environment. The goal was to make a house that is simple but solid, modest yet profound.

    The home is designed for three generations living together. The basement provides space for shared hobbies and leisure. The first floor supports the independent daily life of the parents, while the second floor accommodates the clients and their children. Each generation maintains privacy where needed, yet the spaces are gently connected so that daily life unfolds under one roof with natural exchange and consideration.

    The house carries flexibility within its simple form, able to embrace different patterns of life. It is meant to be a warm vessel where family members of different generations can live together comfortably and pass on their bonds. A house that unites function, form, and the stories of life. This is the essence of what was built on this site.

    대지는 주택단지로 개발되었으며, 다양한 형태와 재료를 가진 주택들이 산발적으로 들어서 있는 동네에 위치하고 있다. 목구조, 철골구조를 비롯해 벽돌, 석재 등 다양한 외장재가 사용된 주택들이 혼재되어 있어, 요즘 흔히 볼 수 있는 여러 유형의 주택 양식이 집약된 듯한 풍경을 이루고 있다. 이러한 다채로운 환경 속에서 우리는 근원적인 형태를 갖춘 단순한 주택을 통해 조용하고 견고한 존재감을 드러내고자 하였다.

    설계의 출발점은 기능성과 성능에 충실한 집을 짓는 데 있었다. 복잡한 형태나 과도한 장식 대신, 박공 지붕과 깊은 처마, 그리고 자연석을 주요한 외부 요소로 삼아 단단하고 절제된 인상을 주는 주택을 구상하였다. 외형적 단순함 뒤에는 패시브 하우스에 준하는 고성능 기준을 적용하였다. 열관류율과 열교방지를 면밀히 고려하여 단열을 강화하고, 고기밀 성능을 갖춘 창호 및 마감재를 선정함으로써, 에너지 효율성과 쾌적한 실내 환경을 동시에 달성하고자 했다. 단순하지만 견실하고, 소박하지만 깊이 있는 집을 만드는 것이 궁극적인 목표였다.

    이 집은 3대가 함께 모여 살아가는 공간이 된다. 지하층은 가족 모두의 취미와 여가를 위한 공간으로 구성되었으며, 1층은 부모님 세대의 독립된 생활을, 2층은 건축주 부부와 자녀 세대의 일상생활을 담아낸다. 각 세대는 필요한 만큼의 독립성을 유지하면서도, 한 지붕 아래 서로 자연스럽게 교류하고 배려할 수 있도록 공간을 유기적으로 연결하였다.

    주택은 단순한 형태 속에 다양한 삶을 포용할 수 있는 유연성을 품고 있으며, 가족 구성원 모두가 아늑하게 머물며 세대 간의 정을 이어갈 수 있는 따뜻한 그릇이 되기를 바란다. 기능과 형태, 그리고 삶의 이야기가 조화를 이루는 근원적인 집, 그것이 우리가 이 대지에 지은 주택의 본질이다.
